Regional Director of Medical Services
Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook
Applications are invited for the permanent position of Regional Director of Medical Services. The incumbent will work directly with the VP Clinical-Medical Services, Rural and Primary Health Care, Chiefs of Staff, Department Chiefs, Chair of RMAC and the medical staff to provide consistent administrative leadership and support to recruit, develop, manage and engage physicians on a regional basis. The incumbent will also be responsible for the provision of leadership and the day to day management of the Regional Medical Services Department.
Duties:
Physician Resource Planning: responsible for the development and implementation of a physician human resource plan.
Physician Recruitment, Retention and Performance Management: collaborates with physician leaders to develop tools and approaches to attract, retain and develop physicians.
Branch Planning and Policy Development: provides strategic advice to the leadership team and other senior leaders in the organization on all matters related to policy, planning, management and implementation of medical services.
Credentialing and privileging: ensures the provision of high quality medical care through the implementation of the standardized approach to credentialing and privileging of physicians.
Regional Medical Advisory Committee: provides leadership and human resource support to RMAC.
Fostering Relationships and Physician Engagement: facilitates strong supporting relationships across departments, teams, programs and support areas and with external partners to create an environment where physicians are engaged and feel part of the organizational culture.
Service Delivery Planning and Quality: provides leadership in the planning and implementation of medical services to ensure the provision of high quality medical care across the organization. Collaborates with physician and health services leaders to develop and implement quality improvement processes, ensuring that quality of care measures are in place. Engages in research and evaluation on behalf of the regional medical staff in areas such as utilization, statistical analysis, program costing, best practices related to the organization, management and overall provision of to ensure high quality medical care.
Physician Contracts: responsible for the negotiation, development and implementation of all contracts for physician leaders and physician service contracts for Western Health. This includes assisting the VP Clinical-Medical Services, Rural and Primary Health Care in assuring that Medical Staff Bylaws for the Western Regional Health Authority, Western Health Policies and Procedures and the Memorandum of Agreement between then NLMA and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador are adhered to.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the key skills, behaviours, abilities and knowledge as outlined in the five domains of the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework.

Required Qualifications: A Master's Degree in a health science, human resources, commerce or economics discipline and 3 to 5 years of progressive management experience is required. Previous management experience in a health care setting as well as a familiarity with bylaws respecting Medical Staff, Physician Memorandum of Agreement, organization policy and procedures is required. Experience in human resource management, development of policy and procedures and program planning is essential. The successful applicant must have the ability to compile and analyze statistical information related to medical staff issues, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and also have a proven track record within a regional health organization. Strong organization, financial management, critical thinking and decision-making skills are required. The ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and the ability to promote initiatives through a team approach are also required. The successful applicant may be required to travel both within and outside the Region on corporate business as required.
In the event no suitable candidate is found with the above noted qualifications, consideration may be given to applicants who do not currently possess a Master's degree, provided they are willing to complete same within five years of appointment to the position. In this case, the successful applicant must be prepared to demonstrate proof of registration/enrollment to an appropriate degree program within the first year of appointment to the position. Furthermore, the successful applicant is required to provide annual updates based on the progress of each semester of the program.

Hours of Work: 0830-1630 Hours; Monday to Friday
Salary: $79,978.00 - $103,972.00 per Annum
