Applications are invited for the position of Department Chief, Perioperative. Reporting to the VP of Clinical-Medical Services, Rural and Primary Health Care, the Department Chief provides leadership to ensure the integration of the clinical and operational standards, quality improvement initiatives and academic activities of the department, while also providing support to the VP Medical Services and Chiefs of Staff in matters related to appointments, credentials, privileges and management of remediation and discipline, in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws. The Department Chief also works in collaboration with the Program Director to develop program plans and goals, participate in decision-making, and facilitate the management of fiscal, human and material resources assigned to the program.
Key expectations include:
" Involvement in performance evaluation and quality improvement initiatives in the department
" Human resources planning, recruitment, evaluation and talent management
" Encouraging effective communications and collaboration within the Department and with other areas of the hospital
" Directing thorough investigation and resolution of patient complaints, incidents and adverse events
" Overseeing the day-to-day logistics of the Department, such as call schedules
" Contributing as a member of RMAC and LMAC
" Participating in region-wide planning initiatives, as appropriate

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Duly registered Anesthesiologist with The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada eligible, preferably with post-grad qualifications in health care administrative studies or significant administrative experience. Familiarity with Western Health Bylaws, Policies and Procedures pertaining to Medical Staff is required.
